Banisteriopsis caapi is a Malpighiaceae liana of the western Amazon, the foundational vine of Ayahuasca brewing across dozens of indigenous traditions in Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, and Brazil. Without the MAOI it provides, the DMT from companion plants would be destroyed by gut enzymes. The vine itself produces mild visions and purging when consumed alone (caapi por si solo).
