The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is the United States federal agency responsible for enforcing the country's controlled-substance laws. It administers the scheduling of controlled substances under the Controlled Substances Act and registers and licenses the handling of scheduled compounds for medical, scientific, and research use.

The DEA's scheduling actions and its registration of researchers are referenced across many medicine pages on this wiki, since a medicine's legal status and a researcher's access to it both run through the agency. The chemist Alexander Shulgin held a DEA Schedule I analytical license for much of his career.
