Richard Helmuth Frederick Manske was a Canadian chemist who carried out the first synthesis of N,N-dimethyltryptamine, in 1931 at the National Research Council laboratories in Ottawa, as part of a systematic study of the methyltryptamines.[1] At the time the compound was not known to occur in any plant. He is also known for extensive work in alkaloid chemistry.
