Receptor:5-HT2A
Appearance
5-HT2A is a G protein-coupled serotonin receptor and the most extensively studied member of the 5-HT2 receptor family, which signals predominantly through Gq/11 proteins and phospholipase C.[1] It is densely expressed on cortical pyramidal neurons and is the principal molecular target of the serotonergic ("classic") psychedelics, including LSD, psilocybin, DMT, and 2C-B, whose characteristic effects depend on 5-HT2A agonism.[2] 5-HT2A antagonism also contributes to the pharmacology of the second-generation neuroleptics.
